Artist LEONIE LACOUETTE Specializing in Clock

LEONIE LACOUETTE

Hunter-Wolff Gallery is pleased to offer the beautiful clocks handcrafted by Leonie Lacouette. She began making clocks as a practical way to earn a living while applying her artistic skills from art school. Her journey started when she needed a clock for her studio and saw an ad for a company offering clock mechanisms. Rather than buy an uninspiring clock, she knew with her skills she could build her own to suit her style. So, she ordered five, created a clock for herself, and crafted four more to sell hoping to cover the costs of the mechanisms. They sold quickly, launching her ongoing career as a clockmaker for 40 years!

Today, from her rural studio in upstate New York, Lacouette draws on her Manhattan upbringing to design clocks that blend beauty and utility. She describes herself as both mechanic and artist, emphasizing functionality as much as form. Her modernist designs balance geometric precision with warmth, and she to expand plans to incorporate more exotic, sustainably sourced wood veneers in future work. "I like the simplicity of my designs. Coming from Manhattan, everything was go-go-go, always accumulating more stuff-stuff-stuff, having lots of things. It feels great to create something straightforward and beautiful, a style that I call my own."

Hunter-Wolff Gallery likes her style too and know you will find each to be unique and fitting for an art collector.
