Kenneth Shanika
Hunter-Wolff Gallery in Colorado Springs is proud to present the beautiful collection of original oil paintings by Ken Shanika, depicting scenes of the ever-changing Rocky Mountains. Shanika proudly admits he "owes much of his natural artistic ability to his father, a well-known professional artist".
At an early age, Shanika's talent and strong interest in art became evident and it is no surprise to those who are closest to him that he went from doodling on the back of school work as a young boy to a life as a successful and highly respected professional artist. With award-winning ability and formal training from Kansas City Art Institute, he studied painting and drawing under the chairman of the painting department, Wilbur Niewald. He also had the opportunity to receive expert training in print-making techniques from Bill McKim, the chairman of the print-making department. Before Shanika completed his senior college year, his fine art career began to take shape when two original lithographs were featured at the Union of Independent Art Colleges Annual Traveling Art Show and were included in the exhibition that traveled to all the member schools.
Only two years after receiving his B.F.A. degree, Shanika started the Colony Bistro Art Gallery & Frame Shop, one of the most respected galleries in the Kansas City at that time. By the mid-1990`s, he owned and operated two galleries and managed his time to continue to develop his techniques and produce his highly sought-after artwork. Shanikas fine art is owned by many collectors and businesses in the Mid-West and throughout the United States.
Living in Colorado since 1998, he paints full time en plein-air and in his studio. His favorite subject to capture on canvas is the ever changing and beautiful Rocky Mountains as can be seen by awe-inspiring landscapes.
