Audry Cramblit
Hunter-Wolff Gallery in Colorado Springs proudly represents and displays the works of art by Chicago Artist and Sculptor, Audry Cramblit.
Raised in Colorado Springs, a graduate of the Colorado Institute of Art, Audry notes her foray into sculpture in 2001 left her without a doubt that sculpting was her vocation. While strongly rooted in the techniques of traditional figurative sculpture, Audry's passion for novelty and experimentation led her to develop a process of making special rubber molds of her original sculptures. Using the human form as a backdrop, she inserts wet clay into the molds in such a way to create textures, holes and distortions in each piece. She then accentuates the imperfections with pigmented floor wax, shoe polish and paint. The variations created are endless insuring every sculpture is one of a kind, as unique as each human being. Each sculpture takes between three days to a week to dry in the molds and Cramblit says each time she unmolds a piece, its like opening a present, you never know what will come out.
Like many sculptors, Audry works in a variety of mediums. The Vive La Femme series uses the time honored tradition of bronze casting to take a whimsical peek at the confident, fun, sexy, and outrageous avant-garde woman of the turn of the 21st century. In this advent of the digital age, the lines of fashion, film, music, photography and art overlap more than ever, giving way to a rich tapestry of over the top art and design filled with delicious and opulent textures, shapes, colors and images. Vive La Femme is a celebration of these melding of arts that embody today's popular culture.
Audry has received many awards including the Lascaux Best Cow Award in Chicago's famous "Cows on Parade" exhibit for "Buttermilk". Audry has taught Sculpture at The City of Chicago's After School Matters program. She sculpts full time and teaches figure sculpture at the Palette and Chisel Academy of Fine Art in Chicago.
