Donald Hamilton
Hunter-Wolff Gallery in Colorado Springs is proud to represent artist/instructor Donald Hamilton. Don is a Colorado native and by looking at his paintings, Colorado clearly runs through his blood. He has traveled extensively throughout the United States but the west is his favorite place to paint, especially on site. His paintings evoke a sense of being right there on top of a mountain, in a meadow or at the edge of a roadside, where he painted en plein air to capture the perfect light and shadows, atmosphere and mood.
From an early age, Don displayed a special gift for art and spent endless hours drawing and sketching. He learned from his grandfather, a master stone cutter, about developing your craft and natural skills. Don took his drawings to his grandfather to be critiqued. It was later in life he fully appreciated the lessons his grandfather taught about design, layout, and the importance of commitment for the highest level of excellence.
Well on his way to establishing himself as a professional artist, Don studied privately with Joe Brand, a respected wildlife artist and instructor at Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design. Here he focused exclusively on wildlife for four years, learning about structure, anatomy and the fundamentals of working in oil.
Don's desire to work in the moment and from life, frequently takes him outside his studio en plein air to seize the beauty of the day and all the nuances of the moment on his canvas.
Don is also an on-location instructor at Hunter-Wolff Gallery and offers one-on-one instruction. Classes are held weekly and open to adults with an advanced reservation 719-520-9494.
We invite you to visit 2510 W. Colorado Avenue, Colorado Springs, CO 80904 and explore Don's collection which is priced from modest to investment levels. We are pleased you are interested in his oils and hope you will join his many collectors around the globe with a special piece in your home or office.
