MB-S064A Hypatia of Alexandria (Blue IKB) $3080

Artist
MARIA BATTISTA

Description

Hypatia of Alexandria is famous for being the greatest mathematician and astronomer of her time, for being the leader of the Neoplatonist school of philosophy in Alexandria, for spectacularly overcoming the profound sexism of her society, and for suffering a violent death at the hands of ignorant zealots in 415 AD.

Colorado Sculptor Maria Battista created Hypatia in bronze using a blue patina to emulate the Yves Klein "International Klein Blue (IKB)," a color that the French painter claimed to have invented in 1956.  This blue represented to him a kind of expansiveness, pure form, abundance and freedom.  It's a very vibrant and vibrating color that brings a positive energy into its space.
