SCOTT LORENZ
Born in Greeley, Colorado and raised on farms in Weld County, D Scott Lorenz came from humble beginnings. Just out of high school from Valley High School in Gilcrest, Colorado, Lorenz began making and selling his handbuilt Raku pottery in 1973. It was that same year; Lorenz got a job at Max’ims Art Gallery in Greeley. Working there for about a year and a half, Lorenz purchased the company just a few weeks shy of his 21st birthday in 1975. Possessing an entrepreneurial spirit and a knack for sales, Lorenz naturally took to the gallery business.
Still continuing to make his own handbuilt pottery for a few years, it became evident something had to give. Because of time constraints, Lorenz gave up making his handbuilt Raku pottery. This allowed him time to concentrate on growing his company, promoting, and marketing other’s works of art and fine crafts. As time progressed for Max’ims of Greeley Galleries, Lorenz established a smaller satellite gallery in Estes Park, CO. After forty years maintaining storefront galleries, both locations were closed early 2014.
Towards the end of 2018, Lorenz joined forces with the Clay Center in Greeley. He had not touched wet clay for forty years. Lorenz resumed and refined his techniques, but now building his Clayworks in high fire stoneware and porcelain. So, after his many years of supporting other artists in his own gallery venues, Lorenz has stepped into the role of Artist. Intent to leave something of himself, tangible from his own hands, in his legacy of beauty that showcases his visions with his own handbuilt art pottery
